    Le 22 septembre 1978    , Charles Bukowski est l’un des invités de Bernard Pivot à Apostrophes.
    Sur le plateau de l’émission littéraire culte d’    Antenne 2, Bukowski vide au goulot une bouteille de Sancerre.

    Les images, fréquemment rediffusées, sont bien connues. Comme il marmonne et empêche les autres invités de s’exprimer, il se fait injurier par Cavana. On l’invite à se retirer, il se lève, titube et sort du champ de la caméra sur un commentaire goguenard de Pivot. (suite…)

    Greetings from Vienna! I’m at the 2010 European Wine Bloggers Conference, representing my personal wine blog, The TeLeGourmet Chronicles, and of course Mmmm…ton vin!

    The event is superbly organised by Gabriella and Ryan Opaz of Catavino, as well as by Robert McIntosh of The Wine Conversation. I should also say that Vienna is an excellent choice of hosting city — not only is it beautiful and stately, but it is making the most of our stay here. We have been given amazing information material (guides, maps, books, give-aways) about Austria, Vienna and its wines, and we’ve also had great opportunities to sample very interesting Austrian wines. And this is only the beginning!…

  • COULD BE ANOTHER BRILLIANT YEAR IN PROVENCE

    After a heatwave last week, the Mistral is now blowing cold and hard from the north.
    In Provence, the harvest is going to be late this year, as the vines were slow to bud after a long and bitter winter.

    To get a foretaste, I went with Anne on our usual walk across the creek behind our place into the vines of Gigondas, munching all the way, with the Dentelles de Montmirail in front in the distance.

    Fingers crossed.  It could well be another brilliant year.  [I never met a winemaker who’d confess to being superstitious, but I don’t know one who would dare say that].  Although the grapes still need another couple of weeks, they explode with flavour.  And not only grapes.  I  picked a basket load of figs off an abandoned tree and found a clump of juicy blackberries.

  • GREECE, ITS WINE AND THE CRISIS!

    I know that a lot of friends have been very much concerned about the vicious way in which the global financial crisis has impacted Greece, and the repercussions on Greek wine as a result.

    So I will take this opportunity to put everyone’s mind at ease, starting by saying that, as every cloud has a silver lining, I strongly believe that the crisis will benefit Greek wine, at least in the long run.

    Let me explain: when all the fuss about the crisis erupted — and, as you’d expect, it was grossly exaggerated by the mass media — most people initially felt very insecure and uncertain about the future.  Even hardcore oenophiles refrained from going out, attending wine tastings and events, and in general enjoying their life as before.

    I’m happy to report, however, that things are nowhere near like this nowadays.
    I’m not saying that they are back to their pre-crisis normal — and they shouldn’t be.  But what we’re now seeing is a positive turn towards efficiency and value, which are notions that —admittedly— we didn’t use to pay too much attention to before. (suite…)
