    Meet the oldest vine in the world, the vino treasure has been around in the country of Slovenia for nearly 500 years.  The most interesting way to encounter Slovenia’s wine may be by tasting it, but also to journey to the city of Maribor, the 2nd largest in the country with 115,000 inhabitants and to visit the oldest living vine in the world.

  • IS SLOVENIA THE NEXT BIG THING IN WINE ?

    A new generation of exciting wines is emerging from one of the least expected places – Slovenia.
    The small nation has in fact a flourishing viticultural tradition stretching back some 2,400 years to the Celtic era, long before the Romans introduced winemaking to France and Germany.

    Puklavec_SloveniaWedged between Italy, Hungary, Austria and the Balkans, Slovenia benefits from mineral-rich soils and a continental climate, making it ideal for producing racy white wines.  The reason they have remained a secret until recently is largely because of Slovenia’s history as a former part of communist Yugoslavia.  Under the rule of dictator Josip Broz Tito, the country’s wine industry was nationalized and vineyards were turned into state-run cooperatives. For decades, not a drop was exported and even today most of the wine is still consumed locally, with each of the two million inhabitants drinking an average of 39 liters per year.

  • UNE DÉGUSTATION EN SLOVÉNIE

    Le vignoble slovène, l’un des plus prospères d’Europe centrale, produit environ 800 000 hectolitres, l’équivalent de la Provence. Il se répartit sur 17 300 hectares en trois régions viticoles, Podravje, Primoska et Posavje, qui produisent une soixantaine de types de vins sur une très grande variété de terroirs.

    carte_vignoble_slovenePODRAJVE, vallée de la Drave (nord est, 7 000 ha) qui produit surtout des blancs, demi-secs ou doux. L’encépagement en blanc se compose en majorité de welschriesling, très répandu en Europe centrale, de chardonnay, sauvignon, Šipon (le furmint de Hongrie, cépage du Tokaj) et de malvazija (malvoisie d’Istrie); et en rouge, de refošk (le refosco italien), de Šametovka, et de plusieurs autres cépages autochtones.
    PRIMOSKA, littoral adriatique (sud ouest, 3 000 ha), caractérisé par un climat méditerranéen aux étés chauds. Mais à l’automne et au printemps souffle le burja, un vent sec et glacé. Les rouges (cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, et surtout refošk) y représentent 50% de l’encépagement rouge.
    POSAJVE, vallée de la Save (est, 7 300 ha), au climat continental, qui produit en majorité des vins de table, dans laquelle se situe le vignoble COLNAR, à Otocec, où va se dérouler de notre dégustation…
